WINCHESTER — The Winchester School Committee voted 4-0 to approve a WCCP grant application for a Lincoln Elementary School playground shade structure. Lincoln Parent Association representative Caitlin Musto told the remote meeting the group scrapped an earlier permanent hardtop design after the town building commissioner found it would cost roughly five times as much and require permits, variances and added snow-load capacity. The revised plan calls for two 10-by-10-foot soft-cover canopy structures, funded entirely by the PTO, that Musto said can "snap off the fabric in less than five minutes" for seasonal storage.
The committee also approved a 2027 music department trip on its consent agenda, 4-0. Members separately discussed scheduling a budget subcommittee meeting, expected Thursday, to review athletic fees ahead of a full committee discussion the following week.
