School Committee appoints Carmona to building panel

School Committee · Meeting of October 29, 2026

Winchester's School Committee heard that the state school building authority advanced Muraco Elementary into a feasibility study. The Massachusetts School Building Authority, chaired by State Treasurer Deb Goldberg, voted unanimously October 28 to move the project forward, with officials estimating a Town Meeting construction vote around 2028. The committee separately appointed Cecilia Carmona to the Educational Facilities Planning and Building Committee by a 5-0 roll call and approved a memorandum of understanding with the Winchester Education Association setting nurses' workdays, also 5-0.

Resident Jason Roeder told the committee a July 14 vote to support a Community Preservation Act grant for the Sanborn Carriage House roof was never followed through, and the grant "was therefore denied by WCCP." WIFI Executive Director Vanda Reedy presented $47,721 in fall grants. A new FY28 budget survey drew roughly 866 community and 400-plus staff participants amid lingering effects of a failed override that cut 32 positions.
