School Committee · Meeting of September 11, 2026

WINCHESTER — The Winchester School Committee voted 4-1 to pause demolition funding requests for the Sanborn Carriage House and seek a Fall Town Meeting feasibility study instead. Chair Dr. Matthews, Mr.

Belair, Ms. Bolognese and Mr. Hopcroft backed both carriage house motions; Vice Chair Mignardi dissented on each, arguing "I don't know what we could do with that building to service Ambrose." The committee separately voted 5-0 to keep care and control of the full Ambrose School lot rather than cede any part for a ground lease.

Members also voted unanimously to ask Fall Town Meeting for $400,000 to replenish a special education reserve fund that has fallen to $3,659, and voted to extend Superintendent Dr. Frank Hackett's contract through 2030. The committee adopted a new policy complying with the state's 2026 Protect Act on immigration enforcement at schools and kept its current high school cellphone storage policy in place for now.
