Winchester's School Committee held a public forum on proposed athletic fee hikes for fiscal 2027 but took no vote. Mr. Marin told the committee a $400 base fee would rise to $600, with new facility surcharges pushing hockey fees to roughly $1,450 and eliminating the family cap on charges.
Even with the increases, the district projects a $61,892 remaining deficit against a $246,000 shortfall under current fees. Parent Steve McClaren called the proposal "absurd" compared to peer towns like Arlington, which charges no athletic fees, and Lexington, capped at $825. Parent Dahlia Fatou said steep fees risk discouraging freshmen from trying new sports.
Superintendent Dr. Hackett said the committee will vote during the week of June 22, ahead of fall registration.
