School Committee · Meeting of June 29, 2026

Winchester School Committee voted 3-2 to raise youth athletic fees to $675 per sport for 2026-27, cutting the family cap from four sports to three. Member Mignarji made the motion, with Hopcroft and Bolognese joining her in favor; Superintendent Hackett and Chair Matthews voted no. Staff said the new three-sport cap totals $2,025, "$575 more than the current cap," and modeling projected a roughly $70,000 budget gap even without participation drops.

Hackett warned fee changes could discourage multi-sport families, saying "it's not our kids' fault that they choose football." Separately, the committee declined to immediately back the Historical Society's Community Preservation Act bid for the deteriorating Sanborn House carriage house, citing process and planning concerns, with no letter sent ahead of the Community Preservation Committee's August 5 review.
