School Committee · Meeting of April 28, 2026

Winchester School Committee detailed 32 staff reductions for fiscal 2027 after voters rejected an $11.5 million override by about 280 votes. Superintendent Dr. Hackett said 10 of the cuts trace to enrollment shifts while 22 more, totaling $3.2 million, are budget-driven, with roughly a third hitting central office functions.

Chair Timothy Matthews called the plan a "bridge budget" that "can really only last for one year" before deeper cuts hit in fiscal 2028. The Winchester Educators Association settled four of five contracts, including the teachers' unit. Members John Belair and Karen Marioma-Bolinese pushed for future investment in Tier 2 math supports and a restored Dean of Student Life position.

Select Board Chair Anthea Brady said a proposed student parking fee would be the Select Board's call, not the School Committee's.
