School Committee · Meeting of May 28, 2026
Winchester School Committee weighed a $600 base athletic fee, up 50 percent, to close a $61,892 budget gap from the failed override. Mr. Marin presented the fee model, which adds facility surcharges for hockey, swimming, tennis, golf and skiing, the five sports with external facility costs; no vote was taken, with a public hearing expected before a decision around mid-June.
The committee voted 5-0 to back a letter from Mr. Belair supporting a state assessment on streaming providers to fund WinCam, and 5-0 to approve its consent agenda. Dr.
Hackett reported about 59 students have joined the district's waitlist since April, with crowding concerns at Lynch and Vinson-Owen. Resident Greg Bilton warned a class size is "running dangerously close to the contractual maxes." Members also ratified appointments to the EFPBC and Retiree Health Insurance Advisory Committee by a 4-0 vote.
