Select Board · Meeting of April 6, 2026

Winchester's Select Board delayed a vote on raising transfer station fees after two local haulers warned the increases would raise customer costs. Public Works Director Robert LaBossiere pitched changes projected to generate $164,200 annually, well under the $250,000 target the board set in February tied to a failed override. Hauler George Nowell and M&M Landscaping owner Dawn Johnson both urged caution, with Johnson warning "higher rates for commercial haulers lead to higher customer rates, which, of course, leads to less customers." Member Michelle Prior said she opposed revisiting commercial tipping rates "six months after we just did a commercial rate update." The board also voted unanimously to sponsor a warrant article amending the Engineering and Facilities Planning and Building Committee bylaw and approved the full Spring Town Meeting warrant.

The fee question returns April 13.
