Tree Committee Charts Course After Override Defeat

WINCHESTER — Tree Committee charts course after override defeat. The Permanent Street Tree Committee approved prior minutes and discussed strategy following failure of a Proposition 2 1/2 tax override that would have provided additional funding for Winchester's tree program. Chair Austin Whitman noted that planned extra funding will not materialize and the Committee discussed potential inclusion in a future override attempt.
The Committee agreed to meet before May 15 to decide whether to apply for Community Preservation Act funding for a tree-related project in spring 2027, and noted that Planning Board efforts to update the Zoning Bylaw to prioritize tree preservation during permit reviews will be completed by June 30.
