FINANCE COMMITTEE · Meeting of June 25, 2026

WINCHESTER — Finance Committee examines $1M athletics budget gap, raises concerns over proposed fee hike. The committee heard Town Manager Chris Senior outline his zero-based budgeting philosophy while confronting a $1 million shortfall in the FY27 athletics budget. The school proposes increasing student athletic fees from $400 to $675 per participant to address the gap, which emerges from a $150,000 cut to the FY26 appropriation.

The Athletic Revolving Fund has declined from $737,000 at the end of FY25 to $207,000 under current projections. Finance Committee members questioned why the $150,000 cut translates to a $275 per-student fee increase and what portion of the gap has historically been covered by booster clubs and external grants. The School Committee is scheduled to vote on the fee structure on June 30.
