WINCHESTER — Design Review Committee unanimously opposes demolition at 910 Main Street, backing adaptive reuse instead. Chair Adrian LeBuffe and member Ellen Spencer, supported by colleagues Eileen Casciari and Juli Riemenschneider, rejected a proposal to demolish the 1860 Italianate house and construct new mixed-use development, citing the structure's strong architectural distinction and significance within the Main Street Mixed-use District. The committee voted unanimously to recommend the adaptive reuse scheme, which preserves the original structure while adding residential and commercial space.
A separate 542 Washington Street two-family home project passed 4-2, with Spencer and LeBuffe opposing the design due to excessive massing; conditions require driveway reduction, roof simplification, and tree planting. Two additional projects—a second-story addition at 22 Governors Avenue and retaining walls at 24 Hillcrest Parkway—received unanimous approval.
