HISTORICAL COMMISSION - TOWN CLERK'S OFFICE · Meeting of June 8, 2026
Winchester Historical Commission lifted a demolition delay for a historic Hemingway Street property in a 5-1 vote. Vice Chair Michelle McCarthy dissented, preferring preservation of the 1831 structure. Chair Bruce Hickey and members Julie Broderick, Janet Boswell, and Aysegul Bilgic supported lifting the delay to maintain Commission influence over the replacement design; developer Mark Donnellan had threatened to pursue a more modern design if forced to wait until October.
The Commission conditioned the decision on matching a recently submitted design and excluding vinyl siding. The board also reviewed designs for 17 Dix Street and 189 High Street with mixed reactions, and unanimously supported a $6,000 Mill Pond Dam historical marker relocation.
